Today, I wanted to share with you the discovery I made thanks to a US Facebook group; I could not resist 🙂
This plugin allows to compress your images, when sending, in the background or in a global manner (manually). It is free and has no monthly quota or constraint on the number of files processed. Its only limitation is that it will not handle 5MB files or more. Admit that it leaves the margin!
It uses functions of Imagify Image Optimizer, Smush Image Compression and Optimization, EWWW Image Optimizer, Image Optimizer, ShortPixel Image Optimizer and the reSmush.it algorithm whose reputation is second to none :).
His name: “Robin image optimizer“, you can find it here on the WordPress repo.
Immediately discovered, immediately tested )! So I installed it on several websites that I take care of. And I must tell you that I was good surprises in good surprises :)!
First, its interface is very simple. It consists of 2 “tabs”:
- A tab “General”, where, normally, you’ll have nothing to change, but which will show you the space saved and the average compression rate of your images, once the plugin will have started his work 🙂
- A tab “Main Settings” where I suggest you the following settings (click to enlarge):
No need for other settings, no API key, registration by mail, or any other step on your part; a treat :).
Once set up, all you have to do is go back to the “General” tab and click on the “RUN” button.
Here, you’ll just have to let the magic work and admire the space saved and imagine your load times of pages 🙂 …
A big thank you to the team of Webcraftic for this very nice tool and other plugins that I have not tested yet but that seem also very nice :D.
PS. Best of all, if you have used the suggested settings, you can restore your original images (all or selective ways) in the (unlikely) case that the result does not suit you :).
